The Department of Telecom has thanked alert and vigilant citizens for reporting suspected fraudulent communications as the government fights against the menace of scam calls. As a result of people’s proactive actions on this front, the telecom department has taken action against fraudsters who send fake messages posing as officials of Life Insurance Corporations of India (LIC) and representatives of insurance companies to redeem ‘Rewards SBI’.
Alert and vigilant citizens are playing an indispensable role in preventing cyber crimes. Through their proactive reporting of suspected fraud communications through the Chakshu-Report Suspected Fraud Communications facility at Sanchar Saathi portal, these alarming citizens are contributing significantly to a safer digital environment DoT said.
Their watchful eyes and quick actions protect not only themselves, but countless others from falling victim to scams, phishing attempts, and fraudulent activities. By reporting suspicious messages, calls and impersonation attempts, these citizens act as the first line of defense against cybercriminals, he added.

The Department of Telecom blocks mobile phones associated with fraudsters posing as LIC officials

DT said that it received information from citizens on May 19 regarding frauds from 14 mobile numbers. In these cases, people were cheated by fraudulent communication in the name of fake LIC officials and representatives of insurance companies and SMS for reimbursement of SBI rewards.
Within 24 hours, DoT analyzed these cases and generated all links for these mobile numbers. Accordingly, 372 mobiles linked to these mobile numbers were blocked on a pan-India basis, DoT said, adding that 906 mobile connections have also been suspended and flagged for re-verification.
This rapid citizen access helps the Department of Telecommunications (DT) to fight and prevent cybercrimes. DoT expresses gratitude to vigilant citizens who enable the Department to ensure a safer and more secure digital ecosystem, the department said.
